FAQs: Male Breast Implants – Breast Augmentation

Male Breast Implants?

Q: Do men ever get breast implants?

A: Although most breast augmentations are done on women, there are some men who benefit from the procedure. Most male-to-female transsexuals and many female impersonators, gender-benders and crossdressers have breast augmentation to improve their appearance and presentation.

There are no significant physiological differences between male and female breast tissue, for the purpose of augmentation, other than the initial volume. The surgical procedure is identical in either case. A few plastic surgeons may limit their practice to female patients, so it is prudent to be clear who the patient is when making an appointment for a consultation. If you are not contemplating living full-time as a woman, consider wearing a brassiere and breast forms full-time for a year or so to evaluate how these new additions would affect your lifestyle.
