Dr. Schaffer graduated cum laude from the University of Nebraska in 1988. He received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1992. He completed a six-year general surgery residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. Included at Vanderbilt was one year of laboratory studies focusing on the cellular and micro-biological aspects of wound healing. Dr. Schaffer completed his training at the University of Alabama-Birmingham with a two-year fellowship in Plastic Surgery. He is board certified by the America Board of Plastic Surgeons, serves on the Medicis Aesthetics Advisory Council and is a member of the BOTOX® National Educational Faculty. Additionally, he holds the rank of Major in the U.S. Army Reserves and served three months in "Operation Enduring Freedom" in the summer of 2003.
