How a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon Can Minimize Scarring With Rhinoplasty
M. Kirk Moore, MD
April 18, 2008Are you unhappy with your nose but concerned that surgery would cause an ugly scar? You don’t have to worry! Nose surgery is usually absolutely scar-free. In my practice, I perform “closed rhinoplasty” almost exclusively, which means that the incisions are made inside the nose where no one will ever be able to see them.
In fact, new rhinoplasty techniques also reduce the amount of bleeding, bruising, swelling, and pain that you will experience after your surgery. With a much less harsh technique than what you might have seen on television or the Internet, you should experience nothing more than mild discomfort. And that discomfort should go away within a week or even sooner.
If you want to experience this gentle version of the procedure, ask your surgeon lots of questions to make sure that he or she knows how to perform these techniques. Make sure your doctor is credentialed by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The best possible scenario is a surgeon who is dedicated to continuing to learn the very latest techniques in rhinoplasty. This ensures that your experience will be as pleasant and pain-free as possible. If the doctor you interview isn’t passionate about rhinoplasty, keep looking! For me, it’s more than just a surgical procedure – it’s a calling – and I highly recommend that you work with a surgeon who feels as I do about this work. It should be all about taking care of you.
Because my rhinoplasty techniques are gentler than any in the industry, people often travel to my office in Utah for their procedure. They even sometimes combine their surgery with a ski vacation. It’s worth it if you fail to find a surgeon in your area that you feel comfortable with. You need to feel confident that you will receive the best possible care and achieve the look you have always wanted.
Looking great doesn’t have to be a difficult experience, and you shouldn’t have to deal with ugly scars that will make you feel self-conscious. With small incisions inside the nose, your surgeon can “resculpt” your nose to the size and shape you want, correcting any injuries or crookedness without anyone knowing you’ve had it done!
