What Patients Say About . . .
Dr. Staggers
Hi Nicole,
My name is Emily. I have breast augmentation surgery scheduled for April 24th. I have found your site to br quite informative and used the questionnaire for my consults. I met with two doctors in the Mobile area. One recommended from the website and one recommended from a friend. I am going with Dr. Staggers, who was recommended on your website.
My first consult was with a doctor who was very rude, had no interest in entertaining my questions and his bedside manner was horrible. He did mention your site though...and if he had taken the time to talk with me, would have learned that I frequent it often. I left with my husband saying, "I would rather not do this than use that man." It would take a lot for me to say something like that since I have wanted a BA for almost 9 years!
My second consult was with Dr. Staggers. I actually set up three consultations, but after meeting with Dr. Staggers, there was no need to look any further. He was great! He spent almost an hour and a half with me and my husband. Not only was he willing to take the time to answer all of my questions, he made my husband feel very comfortable...which is very important to me. After a long discussion about size, Dr. Staggers told me about High Profile implants, which is what I have chosen to go with. I am very excited about the surgery and the days cannot go by fast enough.
Once I have the surgery, I will be sure to send you more information on Dr. Staggers...but just from the consultation I can see why he is recommended on your website! Thank you for taking the time to hear my story.
Take care, Emily
At 18, I was extremely self-conscious about my flat chest. All of my friends, especially the boys, had made fun of me most of my life. I tried every padded bra known to man, but back in the 80's, they just didn't make them like they do now. And as for bathing suits, when I got in the water and half of the cup collapsed, it was a little obvious that there was nothing under the suit!
When I first heard about breast augmentations, I thought for sure that my parents would never consider it. I lived in a small town, and my family had a close relationship with our only doctor there. He was aware of my insecurities, and convinced my parents that this would be the best thing for my self-confidence. They finally agreed, and I was ecstatic.
I had the surgery in June of 1988, after graduating form high school. I was so excited about the outcome, that I never really stopped to think about the pain involved or the recovery time. At that time, my plastic surgeon did not use muscle relaxers to control the muscle spasms that often occur after breast augmentations, and the pain medicine didn't seem to help at all. Also, I was only sedated, so I felt parts of the surgery. It was a very painful experience, and I thought I'd never completely recover.
Of course, I finally did recover, and I was thrilled with the results. I actually went to Macy's after my two-week check up and tried on bathing suits happily- I felt like a new person. I suddenly began holding my shoulders up for the first time in my life!
Over the years after my surgery, I heard several negative reports about silicone implants, which were the kind I had. I tried not think about it, but it always lingered in the back of my mind. After having silicone implants (which I later discovered weren't as beautiful as I had thought at 18) for 13 years. I decided it might be time to have them changed to saline. I spoke with Dr. Staggers on several occasions- I had tons of reservations, because I couldn't imagine going through the pain again, especially with two children at home. Also, when I had the surgery in 1988, the doctor's didn't release the muscle below my breasts, therefore, the fullness of the implant was at the top, and my nipple pointed downward slightly. After nursing two babies, they began to sag, and they were just not pretty at all! Because of that, and the fact that I had always been concerned about the silicone, I decided to have the second surgery.
My second experience was completely different from the first. Dr. Staggers and his staff made me feel so relaxed, and I very comfortable with their capabilities. I got to his office at 8AM, and was at home by 11:00AM. Not only did I not feel any part of the surgery, but I actually felt decent when I woke up. They gave me a muscle relaxer before I went home, and I can honestly say that I didn't have any true pain. Of course, I was a little sore for a few days, but nothing even close to my first surgery.
Now, several months later, I couldn't be more pleased. Not only do I have "pretty" breasts, but I don't have to worry about having silicone in my body. I would recommend to anyone considering breast augmentation, to just do it. It completely changed my life for the better. So many people are quick to judge those of us who chose to have breast implants or other types of plastic surgery. They say that it's a vanity issue. Well, maybe for some it is, but my opinion is that if it makes a person feel better about themselves, the only bad thing is not having it done!
I was born with a breast deformity called "tuberous breast". I knew that I was different from the other girls in my class at a fairly young age. This deformity prevented me from having any kind of a round shape to my breast. To me, they were nothing less than ugly. I cried about my condition constantly, always feeling different. Knowing that none of the other girls around me looked the way I did. I was teased when I got to high school when I wore bathing suits with no padding. I always wore loose fitting shirts, never drawing attention to myself. My self-esteem was non-existent. Only close friends and family knew the energetic outgoing person that I was. I hated looking at myself in the mirror and absolutely did not want anyone else looking at me.
At the age of 29, I was engaged to be married, and I wanted more than anything to have my deformity corrected before my wedding. I opted for what I hoped would be a simple breast augmentation, though deep down I knew that that would not be possible. It wasn't quite that easy, but it was somewhat possible to correct my deformity.
March 6, 2001, was a day that I had cried for, longed for, and prayed for. I was scared to death, yet so excited. I couldn't wait to buy all the things I couldn't wear before. Dr. Staggers assured me that he would correct the tuberous breast and add implants to give it the roundness that I have wanted for so long. And that's exactly what he did! I will never forget that day.
After my surgery I had no pain what so ever. I was so excited about how perfect my breasts were and for the first time in 29 years, I smiled when I looked at my chest in the mirror. For approximately five days after my surgery I experienced a little discomfort, basically soreness from some bruising. After one week my bruising was clearly healing. The incisions were made around my nipples so my scars are practically invisible. Seven months after my surgery I am still so excited about how I look now that I am constantly looking at myself in the mirror, laughing and smiling instead of crying. This surgery has changed my life! I would recommend to anyone suffering from any kind of deformity such as mine to make the choice to have it corrected, and finally have the opportunity to meet the person hiding inside.
Nicole,
Everything went great with my surgery. It has only been a little more than a week, so I am still sore...but I have to say, I couldn't have asked for better results. Dr. Staggers' staff was wonderful. They made me feel so comfortable. All the nervous gitters that I had on the way disappeared when I got in the office.
I am glad to have your site to refer to...it has such good information and helped me to feel very confident in my decision.
I am going to forward you some before and after pictures through the website.
Thank you again for the website and the recommendation to Dr. Staggers. I believe that I made the best choice in doctors!
Take care, Emily
Hi Nicole. My Dr. was William Staggers in Fairhope Alabama. His cost was $3250.00, which covered evverything except my medication. He was a wonderful surgeon and made me very happy. I was an "A" cup on the left and a "B" cup on the right before surgery. Now, my breasts look the same or getting very close to it. I am only 3 weeks post-op. Dr. Staggers did a very very good job and I would recommend him to anyone that wanted this surgery. It has been a very good experience!
