What Patients Say About . . .
Andrew Barnett, M.D.

Jan's Story

Hi Nicole,

My name is Jan. I am writing this letter to provide feedback on a recent surgery I have experienced with Dr Andrew Barnett, San Francisco. I came to him 4 weeks ago for a consultation. I have breast augmentation done with another plastic surgeon in the Bay area Sept 2004 and developed right breast capsular contracture. In addition, I was not generally happy with my first surgery because it was done above the muscle and does not look so natural. I want it done submuscular, the surgeon wants it above the muscle. I want it done trans-axillary approach, the surgeon wants it done the areolar approach. Everything should have made me realized right from the start that the operation was not meant to be.

I have known Dr Andrew Barnett since last year thru your website. I did an extensive research on breast implants and I came up with the conclusion that he is the BEST and the RIGHT person to go to. I have been meaning to have my augmentation done by him from the very start but a friend of mine has convinced me to go for the plastic surgeon that she worked for. Because I was given a good discount, I went ahead without consulting with Dr Barnett.

So when I developed complications and was not happy with my first plastic surgeon, I went ahead and scheduled consultation with Dr Barnett. The first meeting was impressive. The people in the office were very warm and friendly. Laurie was very good at coordinating schedules, appointments, and follow-ups. Dr Barnett is very professional, has the air of confidence that made me feel I really came to the right place. What I like about him, on top of having been trained in highly acclaimed academic institution, is that he is an artist. Cosmetic surgery is not only a science but an art in itself.

I had my surgery Sept 7, 2005 at St Francis Hospital. My pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative experiences were exceptional. Everybody made me feel comfortable. In the CGU (come and go unit), nurses like Marjorie and Loi were very friendly and accommodating. When I was being set up in the operating table by Dr. Barnett, Dr Vince (anesthesiologist), and the nurses, they were very careful, very caring, and simply amazing. That was the last memory I had before the surgery.

When I woke up, I was already in the recovery room. Nurses keep me updated which was very helpful when one is going in and out of consciousness. My boyfriend was there to provide me all the support and care. Overall, I had such a smooth sailing wonderful surgical experience.

I had right breast capsulectomy, and bilateral sub-muscular re-implantation. Immediately after surgery, I looked at my breast and they were the most natural looking breasts i have ever seen. I couldn't help but compare it to my first surgery. My boyfriend was so impressed. My first surgery made me look so swollen and appeared so irregular immediate post-op. But this surgery with Dr Barnett was so amazing...my breasts appeared so natural, well sculpted. My recovery time was only 3-4 days. During the first day after surgery, I was already up and about. Where as my first surgery took me 2 weeks to recover - i felt so much pain, i was so miserable, I had bruising, and bad swelling.

This experience has left me lots of lessons that I want to share to your readers, Nicole. First, if you want to have breast augmentation, do your research on the right plastic surgeon to go to. I would want them to look at Br Barnett's profile and would suggest that they use him as a baseline - well trained from reputable academic institution and have the love for art (breast augmentation involves both science and art). Second, if they are really serious in having breast implants done, save up for it and do not go for discounted prices because they will end up paying for more. Expect cheaper offers to produce poor quality end products.

Nicole, thank you very much for taking time to read this letter. If you can send a copy to Dr. Barnett, please do so. I want him to know that he is the best and I can never thank him enough for making this experience an amazing one.

Always,

Jan - East Bay, California

Hey Nicole,

I told Dr. Barnett you said Hello--he remembers your website and sends his best. He also asked me to post my experience; my "story" at your site to help alliviate others girls worries and help reassure his happy customers. Thanks for everything!! I love your site :) Christina S.

Christina's Story

I'm done! My surgery was on the 12th and I am proud to say I am stretching out a 34D bra right now--haha!! (I know it's from swelling, but still--wow!). So he's my story: First of all, it's hard to yield that anxiety, but you really will be okay! It's not just comforting words. I went to the San Ramon Surgery Center in California, got registered with Carol and signed a bunch of paperwork and made my hospital payments. My boyfriend, Sean, was with me the whole time. Then they called me back by myself at first and I got my own little curtained off area with a really comfy gurney that had a strange warm air-blowing blanket on it. They had me change into the gown down to my panties, and a couple nurses came in to prep me up. They took my vitals, laughed and joked with me, answered ALL my concerns and put in a saline IV drip which was really easy. Then Sean came in with me and we sat for awhile and relaxed while I waited for Doctor Barnett to come in. He came in and drew all over my chest and stuff and we chatted a little, then I met my Anesthesiologist--John. He was great too. Then it was time to go and I kissed my B.F. goodbye and they rolled me into the surgery room where about 4 other nurse like ladies introduced themselves and were extremely friendly too me. They removed my gown at the top and one of them put a mask over my face and even let me hold it there myself for comfort. I don't even remember closing my eyes. After waking up it's really foggy. My recovery nurse, Diane, said I kept asking to take my bra off, lol.

I hate to cut this short Nicole, but I'm still fresh and feeling a little ill. Forgive me, but anyways, everything went REALLY well--I'm doing great! Thank you for all the love and support, write you again when I'm feeling more up to it :) *HUGS*

Christina S.

Dear Nicole,

I had a very wonderful experience with Dr. Barnett and wanted to share it so that other woman would get an opportunity to get breast augmentation from such an experienced and professional physician. I interviewed 3 physicians before I selected Dr. Barnett. He is very thorough but quick in consultations because of his busy schedule but if you have questions he will always allot enough time to answer them. I liked his style and felt his before and after photos were in line with what I was personally trying to achieve.

I was initially terrified about the surgery but it turned out being a thousand times easier than I could ever have imagined. I experienced no pain whatsoever and only had to take pain meds within the first 24 hours after surgery. Within a week, I was back to my normal routine, working, sleeping on my stomach, and feeling great.

I continually told Dr. Barnett that I didn't want to go too large, he explained that woman always wished they had gone a little larger. In the end, I took Dr. Barnett's advice and they are the perfect size for me. I would have been disappointed had I selected a smaller size as other physicians I interviewed with had recommended. I am now 7 weeks post and I never been happier. I attribute this to Dr. Andrew Barnett. If given the opportunity, there is no question in my mind I would use him again for this procedure. I am so happy I found him on Nicole's website. I owe him a big huge thank for everything. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an expert in the industry.

Nina

Dear Nicole,

I had my BA about 8 months ago and I have been meaning to tell you about my wonderful experience with Dr. Barnett from San Francisco.  I was 20 and my parents were very invovled throughout the process.  He made my entire family feel comfortable and at ease with my decision.  I hope you can pass along this information to anyone looking for a physician in the area.  Thanks. Jessica

P.S.

I am so grateful to have your website as a reference.  All of the information on your website was a tremendous help!

Hi Nicole,

I found my surgeon on your site. I went to Dr. Andrew Barnett in SF for my BA. He is great! I became aware of Dr. Barnett through an article you had posted on your website. The article described a boyfriend’s perspective on his girlfriend getting a BA. Dr. Barnett was the surgeon in the article. I was very impressed, so I researched him on implantinfo.com.

I actually flew down from Seattle, Washington to get my BA from Dr. Barnett. He specialized in the exact type of implant I wanted, under the muscle using a transaxillary incision. I am now 12 days post op and starting to feel a better. Dr. Barnett was very easy to work with. I was able to do my initial consultation on 9/13 and the surgery on 9/15 since I was from out of town.

I chose Dr. Barnett for several reasons. 1) Excellent reviews on your website 2) Board certification 3) Surgery was done at St. Francis Hospital w/ certified anesthesiologist 4) Willingness to work with out-of-state patient 5) Responsiveness to any questions 6) Excellent office staff (Lori in the office is great) 7) Extremely low infection rate (zero from surgery) and 8) Many, many years of experience. I realize that Dr. Barnett is more expensive than many other surgeons, but I feel that he was worth it. Ultimately, I wanted to have excellent results the first time around. He is very professional and I would recommend him to anyone wanting to get a BA.

I hope this information helps. Again, I love your website and chat on it all the time.

Wendy

Dear Nicole,

I would like to begin by thanking you for your web site.  I'm sure I speak for many, when I say it helped me make some very difficult decisions.

I'm 49 years old and was searching for a doctor to correct problems I developed from a breast augmentation I had some 15 years ago.  Shortly after my augmentation I developed encapsulation in both breasts which got progressively worse over the years. I also had pretty severe ptosis I wanted corrected.

I knew I was looking at a breast lift, and the scars that can result from this type of surgery terrified me.  The most difficult decision of this whole process was finding the "right" doctor.  Unless you know someone who has had the surgery you're facing and is satisfied with the work they've had done, you choose a doctor, cross your fingers and hope for the best.

I took my time, researched quite a few doctors, and was prepared to have as many consultations as it took until I felt I found the most skilled surgeon.  Finding a plastic surgeon to perform the surgery I needed was easy, finding one with the artistic ability to perform surgery with the best possible results was going to be the hard part.

Your site brought me to Dr. Andrew Barnett who practices in the San Francisco Bay Area.  I found his credentials and accomplishments very impressive and I scheduled a consultation.  During the consultation Dr. Barnett identified the procedures I needed, there were three.  I needed both breasts lifted, a capsulectomy, and a implant exchange.  He walked me through each one of the procedures and before we were done I knew exactly what expect.  At no time did Dr. Barnett make me feel uncomfortable, he spoke to me honestly with ease and enthusiasm, which gave me confidence in his skills and abilities.

I knew this was going to be a costly surgery, but never felt preasured, or that money was Dr. Barnett's motivation.  He is a "perfectionist" having been married to one for many years I recognized the symptoms.  Needless to say, I scheduled my surgery before leaving his office.

It's been three weeks since my surgery and I am delighted with the results, it far surpassed my expectations.  Dr.Barnett is amazing, when God passed out gifts he got in line twice.

I highly recommend Dr. Barnett to anyone considering plastic surgery.

Sincerely, JC - Contra Costa County

Dear Nicole:

I wanted share with you my experience with Dr. Andrew Barnett in San Francisco, CA so that you can pass the word on to others who are looking for a plastic surgeon in San Francisco. Please feel free to post this on your site along with other people's experiences with Dr. Barnett.

I found Dr. Barnett through your site last year. It has been one week since I had a breast lift and augmentation performed by Dr. Barnett and I am truly amazed at what he did for me. I saw Dr. Barnett today for my second post-op exam and we are both thrilled and again, amazed at the outcome. I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work the next Tuesday, a little tired and sore, but able to function quite well.

I am only 32 years old with no children but I had a very severe case of ptosis. Pre-op my breasts were about a 36C, but very saggy and flat. I never had perky breasts, even as a teenager, but for some reason over the past few years they had gone south in a big way. It was something that caused me so much embarrassment. I hated to look at myself naked and I had become embarrassed to be seen without a bra in front of anyone, including my boyfriend. I never thought that I would have this type of a procedure but then I thought, why not? It was something I really wanted and needed to do for myself and for nobody else, and I am so glad that I did.

Dr. Barnett is truly an artist. He totally reconstructed my breasts. Even though I am still recovering and I still have some bruising and swelling, my breasts look beautiful! I can't imagine how good they will look when they finish settling in. The scars from the lift are not bad at all, very thin, small lines. I think Dr. Barnett was a bit amazed himself, considering what he had to work with. He told me that my surgery was a little more challenging than he thought it would be. I also had implants put in and not because I necessarily needed bigger breasts [although now I like the bigger size] but more as part of the overall reconstruction of my breasts. I had a lot of saggy skin that I knew needed to be filled to get the look I wanted. To tell you the truth I don't even know the cc's, I didn't even ask as it didn't seem important. I think that I will end up being about a 36 or 38D.

I had talked to one other plastic surgeon before I found Dr. Barnett but I didn't really feel comfortable with him. I totally trusted Dr. Barnett immediately. His biography and experience alone had me very impressed. After my first consultation with him I scheduled my surgery before I left the office. Even though I had been to your site many times before I had the surgery and knew all of the lingo, I really didn't ask for anything specific. Dr. Barnett seemed to know what I wanted and needed and he just did it. In addition to being a great doctor, he is a very sincere person with a good sense of humor.

Dr. Barnett's fee was competitive with other top surgeons in this area [which tend to be higher than the national average] but it was worth every penny and frankly I would have paid almost any amount of money for what he did for me. I already feel better about my body, and not just my breasts, but my body as a whole. Until my ptosis really started to bother me I never realized how important breasts are to a woman's self image. I never thought much about my breasts as I always had good sized breasts and when wearing a good bra and covered by clothes, they were probably fine to the outside world. But when I took off my clothes everything changed. I had never realized the intense femininity that the breasts represent for a woman until my breasts began to make me feel not so feminine.

I could go on and on, but I just wanted others to know that (1) if they live anywhere near San Francisco [or even if they don't] go see Dr. Barnett if you are considering breast augmentation and/or lift and (2) if done for the right reasons, this surgery can completely change how you feel about your body in such a positive way.

Thank you for your website, I have consulted it countless times and I may not have found Dr. Barnett without it.

Best Wishes,

Brooke

It has been nearly three years since I had my breast augmentation surgery with Dr. Andrew Barnett. I am thrilled with the results and so thankful that my research for the perfect surgeon led me to his office. Dr. Barnett was referred to me by the sister of a friend/co-worker. She is a nurse that worked with him, as well as other surgeons, in surgery. She said he was "the best" and chose him to do her own breast augmentation. She then referred her soon to be mother-in-law to him for a face lift. I couldn't think of a higher recommendation.

Three years ago, and after much research, I entered Dr. Barnett's office for my consultation with 4 pages of questions. Dr. Barnett answered nearly every one of my questions before I even asked. He explained thoroughly all the risks of breast augmentation surgery, the various placement options and implant types, as well as many details of the surgery and recovery. I found Dr. Barnett to be a very caring, concerned, informative, and informed doctor as well as an extremely talented surgeon with a very artistic eye.

My recovery was remarkably easy. I looked wonderful! My axillary scars are nearly impossible to see without looking VERY closely. My husband was in absolute AWE. He couldn't believe how perfect my breasts were (and continue to be). Needless to say, I have since referred quite a few personal friends to Dr. Barnett since my surgery three years ago. All have been very happy with the results of their surgeries which have included: breast augmentations, lipo, and a complete re-do removing 10 yr. old silicone implants placed subglandularly with a full lift and new implants placed below the muscle (her scars are so fine they are nearly invisible!!).

Even after three years, I continue to follow Nicole's site. This site is wonderful for any person contemplating such major elective surgery. Please research whatever surgeon you choose very carefully. Being informed about all aspects of this surgery is extremely important.

Wishing you all the best with your research and decisions.

Becky M.

Hi Nicole- Just wanted to thank you so much for all your hard work in making ImplantInfo.com such a great resource for women considering breast implants. I just finished your survey and wanted to let you know that my surgeon is Dr. Andrew Barnett in San Francisco. He is absolutely the BEST! I'm going in next week for my 1 year recall and am so thrilled with how I look. Funny thing about cosmetic surgery - you see how easy it is to make a drastic change on one part of your body, then you start to think about changing others. Humm, maybe I should talk to him about my nose . . . Ha ha Thanks again and please let me know if I can answer any further questions. Suzanne

Hi guys, I have a consultation with Dr. Barnett in S.F/Walnut Creek next month and was wondering what to expect. Has anyone on this board had a consultation, ba or any other procedure done by him? I have a ton of questions for you! Please post of feel free to e-mail me. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance! Jeannine

Thank you so much for your site. It's a wonderfully supportive and informative site. I would not have found Dr. Barnett without it, I would not have known about cc's without it, and I would have been given 290 cc's from my first PS instead of the 450 cc's I got from Dr. Barnett without it. I would have been another one of those women completely dissatisfied! Thanks to this forum I received the care I deserve and got my "money's worth!!!"

Hi Nicole....*Huggz*

Just wanted to let you know that I had my 2ed post-op yesterday with Dr. Barnett (got my stitches out..YIPPY) and I gave him your message to say hello to him. (I don't remember if I told him before, cuz the day of surgery I was to druged up and the 1st post-op I was still in a lot of pain) but in any case, He sends his regards and a big ole' wave from California! : )))

Also, I want to personally thank you for this site, because without it I would never have found Dr. Barnett. He is the BEST!! I don't even know how to express my delight and satisfaction in his work.. all I can say is that he's simply the BEST! His attitude is great, never ever talks down to ya, he's "real" ...jokes and doesn't have that superior air to him....he's just very easy to talk to and SO TALENTED, WOW!! He did a wonderful job with me (miracle if you wanna know the truth) I would never have thought I would get results like I have...and only TWO weeks post, mind you! He said that I was doing very well...I was never high on the chest like a lot of the pix I've seen, so didn't have far to drop, but believe it or not...I'm done dropping. No bruises to speak of anymore...and no swelling. Although it's still painful to massage and I have some softening up to do....other than that, everything is 100% perfect! (can you tell how happy I am?) :)) The look great!

I would recomend Dr. Barnett to ANY woman in California considering a BA and looking for a qualified, talented, and super nice doctor. (Shoot, I'd have flown from out of state for the care and results that I got) NO LIE!

Okay...well, just wanted to pass on his message to you and tell you and everyone else how wonderful he is...and how great I'm doing.

Again thank you for recommending him ...... WHOOOO HOOOOO!!! I look in the mirror Nicole and all I can do is SMILE! (hate to sound conceited here, but ....well, I look good!!!) 34 years old, 2 kids and I finally got my WISH come true. :)) I still can't believe I've actually done this!!! WOW! : ))

THANX A MILLION!!! :))
