Visitors' Stories -- Mary (page 2 of 2) Surgery time! The nurse came back and told Dave that he had to go and that when I was ready they would call him to come up. We said our goodbyes and they wheeled me off. They wheeled me into another cold room, which they hurried and hooked me back up to the blow dryer blanket. There were now 2 nurses that were talking among themselves and the anesthesiologist was changing my IV bags. I started to feel my hand turn cold so I looked at it. The anesthesiologist told me that he was changing my IV bag and that's why I felt coldness. He then placed an oxygen mask on my face and told me to breathe. That's the last I remember. I woke around 10:00 A.M. My chest felt really heavy and hot. Around 10-15 min. of being awake I felt nauseous. The nurse gave me a little bucket thing in case I had an accident. I only felt nauseous for only about 5 min. then the whole thing went away. The nurse called Dave around 10:30. The nurses gave me juice to drink and were really great. The nurse asked me if I remember when they were wheeling me out of surgery. Of course I didn't but she said that I looked down at my chest and said, "Yeah, I have boobies". Anyway, Dave showed up 10 min. later and stayed with me for around 15 min. and got me dressed and out the door. I don't even remember the ride home but I know we arrived around 10 after 11:00. Dave ran and got me something to eat ( Zips deep fried fish). I fell asleep on the couch around 2:00 P.M. and woke around 6:30. I went to sit up and couldn't move. My chest was on fire when I would go to move in the sitting up position. I just couldn't do it on my own. Dave had to put his hands underneath my back and lift me up while tears filled my eyes. Before he did that he had a pain pills with water waiting for me on the coffee table. Once I was sitting up the pain only lasted for a few minutes then I was okay. I went to sleep okay that night. I woke up, couldn't move, very sore. Dave had to do the same things with his hands under my back to lift me up. I wasn't very hungry. Took my pills as usual. Took pills through out the day without eating (my bad). Around 6:30, I got sick. Totally tasted like chewed up aspirin. Definitely, eat with your meds! Went to sleep and slept okay. Friday morning, or I should say noon I woke up. I was by myself this time ( Dave had to work). I dealt with rising to the sitting position when I woke up. I made myself something to eat and this time only having to take 1 pain pill instead of 2. I took off the sports bra that the doctor sent me home in to get a peek. Dave got home and took some pics. Both of us are very happy with the results so far. Slept okay that night. 3 days after surgery. I woke at 1:00 today. I am feeling pretty good. Dave had to rise me again when I woke up but the pain was not as bad. Dave and I drove 35 miles to a nearby town called Coeur d' Alene. We went to the mall and walked around a bit. Walking around to much makes my chest feel heavy and sore. Relaxed the rest of the night. Day by day I feel better. It has taken a couple of weeks before I can even sleep on my side. Every week feels better and my breasts are softening up nice. I am very happy and confident and wish anyone else luck! |
