Visitors' Stories -- Liz's Story (page 2):The main thing I remember about the initial 2 days' recovery is how difficult it was to get up and out of bed. Actually it is impossible without help. My stomach muscles never got such a workout before! As long as I stayed propped up on several pillows and my husband pushed on my back to help me up, I could make it. The second morning I woke up and had slid down into more of a reclining position and needed to go to the bathroom very badly. He was in a different bedroom and I didn't want to scream at him and wake up the kids. I tried and tried to get up but I just couldn't do it. Finally, I grabbed the trash can he had put beside my bed in case I got sick and hung my rear end over the edge of the bed and tinkled in it (and all over me and the bed...LOL). Gross, I know, but what's a girl gonna do? We also started videotaping my progress when I got home. My husband took video from the front and sides in the early days with my surgical bra on (which is what I wore day and night for four weeks.) It was pretty comfortable as it was stretchy and velcroed in the front. I look at those videos now and can see the progression from day to day and week to week. My breasts were swollen and had more of a hump on top until about week two, and then just got progressively more natural looking. I really didn't have to drop very much because I had quite a bit of loose skin to start, but my doctor placed the implants low during surgery to avoid the "snoopy" look. By day two, I could pull my own pants up and down and I got my appetite back. I actually sort of enjoyed being waited on hand and foot because this is something I am usually doing for everyone else. I didn't worry about a thing and just slept when I was sleepy and ate when I was hungry. This is not the time to be dieting. You need to eat well to recover and so you don't get lightheaded. I also took a tub bath with my husband's help (could only wash from under my breasts down, but it did feel good.) On day three, my husband washed my hair for the first time in the kitchen sink. He combed it out, too. (I had him practice this pre-op so he didn't pull every hair out of my head!) I was able to sit at the kitchen table for lunch and went up and down the stairs a couple of times but still mainly stayed pretty close to the bed. Still taking naps every so often. Of course, sleeping was totally on my back. I think I slept that way for about 3 weeks, but it didn't really bother me for some reason. I usually sleep on my side, but I was quite comfortable on my back. (continued - click forward arrow to read more). |
