Breast Augmentatation & Breast Implant Information Web - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Breast Implant Registry - How do I get registered?

    1. Why is access to breast implant information important? FDA statistics show one-third of women will have their implants replaced at some time. The most common reason stated is to go to a larger size. Will you remember, years from now, the size and volume of your implants? Breast Implant Registry will.

    2. Won't my doctor have my breast implant information? The length of time doctors are required to keep medical records varies from state to state. Some states impose no requirements of doctors. If you are in one of these states your doctor may dispose of your records as soon as two years after your procedure. In addition, practice names change, offices relocate, and doctors move and retire - even if your doctor isn't available to you, Breast Implant Registry is.

    3. What if I need a second breast procedure? Breast Implant Registry is designed to keep information for all your implant related procedures. Should you need to keep track of multiple procedures additional procedure pages are conveniently added to your Breast Implant Registry computer record.

    4. Will I be contacted by Breast Implant Registry during my subscription? In an effort to keep your contact information up to date, we will contact you annually by email. Should your mailing address, phone number, or email address change during the course of your subscription, please let us know so we can maintain contact with you.

    5. I've had a breast implant placed as part of my reconstruction following mastectomy. Can I register with Breast Implant Registry? Yes, Breast Implant Registry is designed to maintain information on implants placed for both cosmetic and reconstructive reasons.

    6. Will the implant manufacturers have information on my implants? No, contrary to popular belief, implant manufacturers do not maintain records of which implants are implanted in which patients. While implants are assigned unique serial numbers, there is no centralized location which correlates this number with the patient who has these implants except Breast Implant Registry.
