Photos of Breast Implant Capsules
This picture shows a capsule in its natural position in the breast. It shows the left breast from below, through a long incision on the bottom part of the breast. The patient's head is toward the top of the picture. The metallic looking objects in the upper left hand side are surgical instruments holding the incision open. The white area around the periphery represent the outside of the breast. The reddish material is the breast and fatty tissue. The area in the upper center is the capsule that formed around the implant, which has just been removed. You can see that the capsule looks like a smooth membrane attached to the inside of the breast. Just to the right of the center of the picture you can barely see the edge of the capsule, which gives you an idea of its thickness. Not all capsules look exactly like this but this is representative.
